World Vasectomy Day

World Vasectomy Day is an annual Celebration of Men willing to partake in family planning for the benefit of themselves, their families, their societies, and our planet.  Dr. Doug Stein, a Tampa-based urologist, and Jonathan Stack, a New York based cinematographer,  are the Co-Founders of World Vasectomy Day.  For several years in a row now, responsible men have volunteered to undergo vasectomy on WVD in a public forum to demonstrate the ease of the procedure and to showcase their willingness to encourage other men to do the same.

What’s Happening?

In November of 2017, in honor of World Vasectomy Day, Dr. Doug Stein and his associate, Dr. John Curington,  performed a series of free vasectomies in their Tampa office. These procedures were broadcast live to a group of 71 Mexican physicians as part of an international exchange of techniques and tips. Later that month, Dr. Stein and Dr. Curington traveled to Mexico City and participated in the global ceremonies, where they united with an international team of vasectomy physicians, gave lectures, and performed several hundred free vasectomies.

In 2018, Dr. Stein and Dr. Curington performed and filmed vasectomies in their Tampa-bay office and then Dr. Stein flew to Kigali Rwanda to lecture and spread the word about this fantastic method of contraception.

In 2019, the  celebration was in Bogotá, Colombia. Dr. Stein and Dr. Curington flew to the Colombian capital, gave talks at the University of Los Andes, and performed free vasectomies both in non-profit and government facilities.

In 2020, because of the global pandemic, World Vasectomy Day was celebrated virtually in individual offices around the globe. Dr. Stein performed free vasectomies in Lutz on November 13 and led an online video summit on November 14. Dr. Stein and Dr. Curington led an global academic symposium about vasectomies on November 18.

In 2021, Dr. Curington traveled to Bolivia with Dr. Michel Labrecque to teach young Bolivian physicians the gentle no-scalpel technique. As a team, they did instruction with plastic models, and then performed and supervised over 100 vasectomies, thus sharing the minimally-invasive technique with a new generation of physicians.
